A Los Angeles judge stunned Hollywood after sentencing Paris Hilton to jail for 45 days. The heiress fought back tears as the sentence was handed down to her at Los Angeles County Superior Court after she was found guilty of violating her probation on an alcohol-related reckless driving charge. Before the hearing, Hilton, who was joined in court by her parents Rick and Kathy, apologised to Judge Michael T. Sauer for driving her Bentley with a suspended license in February. But Sauer was determined to be tough, dismissing claims from Hilton's publicist, Elliot Mintz, that neither he nor his client were aware her license had been suspended, following a drink driving arrest last year. The judge called Mintz's testimony "completely worthless," adding that Hilton had paperwork in her car stating that her license had been suspended. He then told the socialite she would have to serve the full 45 days in jail and she was not eligible for work release. He also insisted that she wouldn't be able to pick where she served her time. Hilton will begin her jail stint at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Los Angeles County on June 5th. (Teen Hollywood)
Grey's Anatomy star Kate Walsh has been coy about the new man in her life, recently telling PEOPLE he's "a great guy, but I'm not giving you a name." But now, PEOPLE reports in this week's issue, the mystery has been solved. Walsh, 39, is dating Alex Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox, with a string of blockbuster credits including X-Men: The Last Stand and Fantastic Four. "He's a hotshot," says a friend. "But Alex also has substance. He's a good guy." (Walsh's rep declined to comment.) Walsh, who stepped out with Young at an April 28 fund-raiser for Barack Obama in Los Angeles, has become pretty hot herself. On Thursday night, she starred in a two-hour special episode of Grey's, which featured her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd, contemplating a move to another hospital. The storyline is the basis for a possible spinoff starring Walsh and Taye Diggs. And Walsh recently told Best Life magazine she's a late-bloomer in love, but is finally ready for a serious relationship. "I don't need someone with a hot body," she said. "He can be fat or overweight and have a belly. It's very much about style and substance and humor, interest, curiosity and really being smart." (People)
Naomi Watts, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Liev Schreiber, says she's loving pregnancy. "[I'm] just being relaxed and moving at a much slower pace and enjoying it," the actress, 38, told PEOPLE Thursday at the grand opening of Escada's Beverly Hills flagship boutique. "I'm just really happy to be pregnant." Earlier this week, Schrieber, 39, told PEOPLE of his girlfriend of two years: "She's great. In fact, I've never seen anyone handle a pregnancy so well. She's amazing." Watts, who was born in England and raised in Australia, admitted Thursday that jitters may come along with impending motherhood. "Yeah, I will get nervous, but I am very, very excited," she said. But so far, her pregnancy has been going smoothly: "I wish I had some wood to knock, but I just feel very energetic and strong. You know, I hear a lot of women say that it was difficult for them and I know everyone experiences it in a different way, but I'm surprised by my energy." (People) |
